FC Bayern Munich has confirmed an unexpected signing for January with the arrival of Gambian forward Bara Sapoko Ndiaye. There are also indications that Jonah Kusi-Asare may be recalled early from his loan at Fulham. While the Bundesliga leaders appeared set for a relatively quiet transfer window, recent developments suggest increased activity.

In a succinct press release, Bayern announced that the 18-year-old Ndiaye has joined the club on a six-month loan. He comes from the Gambino Stars Africa development academy, which has a cooperative relationship with Bayern and MLS club Los Angeles FC.

Bayern had the opportunity to scout Ndiaye during a pre-season friendly against Grasshopper Zürich, where they secured a 2-1 victory. Notably, FCB’s goals were scored by Lennart Karl and Kusi-Asare, while Ndiaye played the second half for the Swiss side, which managed to score a consolation goal during his time on the pitch. Though Bayern is keen to evaluate the young talent, he is currently sidelined due to a “minor injury.”

According to the Münchener Tageszeitung, Kusi-Asare has seen limited action, with only 23 minutes played, leading Bayern to consider alternative loan options for the 18-year-old. Kusi-Asare’s complicated loan arrangement with Fulham required significant administrative effort, and Bayern is dissatisfied that the club has not provided the Swedish youth international with the opportunity to make an impact.

Numerous Bundesliga clubs have expressed interest in Kusi-Asare, and there are many international teams eager to offer him a chance. It appears likely that, following a similar approach with goalkeeper Daniel Peretz, Bayern will terminate Kusi-Asare’s loan early and relocate him to a more promising developmental environment.
