Rodrigo Bentancur, the Tottenham midfielder, is set to undergo hamstring surgery and will be sidelined for a minimum of three months. The Uruguayan international sustained the injury during Spurs’ recent Premier League defeat against Bournemouth.

As the 28-year-old prepares to miss a significant portion of the remainder of the season, questions arise regarding Tottenham’s potential activity in the transfer market to strengthen their midfield. Bentancur will join his teammate Mohammed Kudus on the sidelines; the Ghanaian winger is out with a thigh injury until after the international break in March.

In addition, Spurs recently transferred forward Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace for £35 million, further impacting their squad depth.

The absence of Bentancur intensifies pressure on manager Thomas Frank, particularly as the team grapples with poor form and increasing discontent among fans. Currently positioned 14th in the Premier League, Tottenham’s woes were compounded by an FA Cup exit at the hands of Aston Villa.

During the match, fans expressed their dissatisfaction by booing the team at half-time, trailing 2-0. Supporters are planning a protest regarding the club’s management during the upcoming home match against West Ham, with the fans’ group Change for Tottenham encouraging attendees to bring yellow banners, flags, and scarves.

This movement follows a meeting between the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust (THST) and senior club officials, where concerns about a perceived ‘dramatic fall in ambition’ were voiced. Change for Tottenham highlighted growing frustrations over the board’s transfer strategy, ongoing injury issues, disappointing performances, and steep ticket prices.

“We believe acting now will hopefully mean our voices are heard at such a pivotal time during the January transfer window. Our first team and squad require significant investment, and after assurances of ambition and a focus on trophies from the Lewis Family Trust, Vinai Venkatesham, and Fabio Paratici, we urge the club to honor these commitments,” they stated.
