In the Bundesliga’s official 2026 season opener, Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt engaged in a thrilling encounter that ended in a 3-3 draw.

Following the match, BVB defender Waldemar Anton expressed his disappointment, particularly with his team’s inability to maintain their lead on two occasions. Anton shared insights regarding four of the six goals scored during the match.

Regarding the foul committed by Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy on Robin Koch, which led to a penalty for Can Uzun in the 21st minute, Anton remarked, “He [Guirassy] knows that he shouldn’t go in like that.” He also highlighted the avoidable nature of the second goal, scored by Eintracht debutant Younes Ebnoutalib in the 71st minute, saying, “When a striker has that much space in the box, we could always defend better. We dropped our intensity after scoring, and that’s not acceptable.”

Reflecting on Mahmoud Dahoud’s late goal that momentarily gave Dortmund a 3-2 lead in the second minute of stoppage time, Anton commented, “That’s something Dahoud would probably hit once in ten tries.” He acknowledged Frankfurt’s clinical finishing, noting, “They were brutally efficient.” Despite the result, Anton found a silver lining in Carney Chukwuemeka’s equalizer in the sixth minute of stoppage time, stating, “This shows that we currently possess a strong comeback mentality.”
