Brais Méndez scored his fourth goal of the LaLiga season against Getafe, surpassing the three goals he achieved throughout the entire previous season. This marks a significant improvement, as he appears to be regaining his form following the appointment of Pellegrino Matarazzo as coach. The player from Mos has matched his second-best scoring tally at this stage of the season, and, more importantly for Real Sociedad, he seems to be enjoying his game once again.

As previously noted, Brais Méndez faced a challenging summer and a difficult start to the current campaign. There were expectations of potential offers for his transfer, including a reportedly irresistible one from Saudi Arabia. Ultimately, he remained with San Sebastián, but after being a key player in his previous three seasons, he was benched for two out of the first three matches by coach Sergio Francisco, possibly influenced by the market dynamics.

The 23-year-old, who made a comeback to the starting eleven with his first goal of the 2025-26 season, may not have performed at his best due to various circumstances. However, as the matches progressed, he seems to have moved past those challenges, scoring in the last three victories against Athletic, Osasuna, and Getafe. This resurgence has reinforced his status as an indispensable player, as he has only been benched once in the last twelve matches.

The goal against Getafe marked his fourth this LaLiga season, surpassing last year’s total and equaling his tally from the 2018-19 season when he was still with Celta, which is the second-best of his career in LaLiga, trailing only the seven goals he scored in his debut season with Real Sociedad in 2022-23.

As an attacking midfielder, Brais Méndez is expected to contribute goals, which he is currently doing. However, it is crucial that he also facilitates attacking play, and his recent performances indicate significant improvement in his final passes and finishing. Maintaining this level of play will be essential for Real Sociedad as they aim to distance themselves from the lower end of the league standings.
