Brazil Proposes to Host 2029 FIFA Club World CupBrazil Proposes to Host 2029 FIFA Club World Cup

omidbasir- Brazil has formally requested to host the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup, according to sources reported by ESPN Brazil’s Pedro Ivo Almeida. This request emerged during discussions among prominent Brazilian football officials, coinciding with FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s visit to Rio de Janeiro on Monday.

Infantino was in Brazil to launch the preparations for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, which will take place across eight cities in Brazil for the first time. Sources indicated that Infantino met with key figures, including Brazil’s team manager Carlo Ancelotti, Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) presidents, vice presidents Samir Xaud and Gustavo Dias Henrique, and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brasília on Monday.

Over the weekend, Infantino engaged in discussions regarding the 2027 Women’s World Cup with Brazilian sports leaders and attended the Carioca Championship match between Fluminense and Flamengo.

The CBF has been diligently working behind the scenes for several months to secure the Club World Cup for Brazil. Unlike the 2025 tournament, which will be hosted by the United States following a unanimous decision by the FIFA Council, the process for bidding on the 2029 event has yet to be clarified by FIFA.

In June, Xaud accompanied Infantino at a match between Flamengo and LAFC in the United States and spoke positively about Brazil’s potential to host the Club World Cup. “I discussed this with President Infantino and view it favorably, especially as Brazilian soccer showcases its capability during this World Cup. I expect our discussions to continue, and with optimism, Brazil will host the 2029 Club World Cup,” he stated.

Xaud noted that Infantino responded positively to Brazil’s proposal, expressing his appreciation for the CBF’s willingness to host the championship. “I believe this dialogue and negotiation will continue, and hopefully, we will bring the Club World Cup to Brazil. We are very close to achieving this, but we need to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages thoroughly. If it depends on the CBF and its president, we will make this happen.”

Currently, Flamengo is the only Brazilian team assured a place in the 2029 Club World Cup, having qualified by winning the 2025 CONMEBOL Libertadores.

Additionally, FIFA officially launched the journey to the 2027 Women’s World Cup with a vibrant celebration in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. This event showcased a blend of football, music, art, and Brazilian culture, marking a significant milestone for the first Women’s World Cup to be held in South America. The tournament’s emblem, slogan ‘GO EPIC,’ and a unique sonic identity reflecting Brazilian sounds were unveiled, aiming to unite fans across various platforms.

Infantino remarked, “The World Cup in Brazil in 2027 will be an event that the entire world anticipates. Brazil is the biggest football nation, and I am confident it will be the most beautiful and exceptional World Cup in history. With strong national teams and talented athletes, the host cities—including Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, Recife, São Paulo, Salvador, Porto Alegre, and Brasília—are prepared for this spectacular event that will commence in 515 days.”

This will be the inaugural FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, set to be a historic occasion for the sport.
