omidbasir- Matchday 11 of the Bundesliga season showcased an astounding total of 34 goals across the weekend’s ten matches. League leaders Bayern Munich managed to survive a first-half scare against Freiburg, while Borussia Dortmund and Stuttgart engaged in an exhilarating six-goal thriller. 1. FC Köln and Eintracht Frankfurt outdid them, with an impressive seven goals in their match.

RB Leipzig, under the management of Ole Werner, climbed back to second place on Sunday afternoon after securing a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Werder Bremen. Assan Ouédraogo, the newest star of the German national team, delivered a brilliant left-footed strike from outside the box, granting his team a lead they would not relinquish.

Although the scoreline suggested a comfortable win for the hosts, the match was anything but straightforward. Mio Backhaus, in the Bremen goal, produced a man-of-the-match performance, helping his side hold Leipzig at bay during a dominant first half. Bremen emerged in the second half with renewed vigor and likely should have taken the lead after the break.

Even after Ouédraogo gave Leipzig the advantage, Bremen created chances to equalize, notably through Jens Stage and Keke Topp. The away side believed they had found the equalizer when Topp poked the ball home at the far post following a corner, only for the goal to be disallowed due to a very tight offside call.

Leipzig remains the closest contender to Bayern, trailing by six points. However, only five points separate them from the five teams positioned just behind.

The encounter between Dortmund and Stuttgart concluded with an entertaining 3-3 draw at the Signal Iduna Park. Deniz Undav shone with a hat-trick for the away side, culminating in a stoppage-time equalizer shortly after Karim Adeyemi appeared to secure a victory for BVB, scoring in the 89th minute.

In Saturday’s featured match, Köln hosted Eintracht Frankfurt at the RheinEnergieStadion, aiming to maintain their strong home form following three wins in four matches. They took an early lead through Jakub Kamiński, who netted his fifth goal of the season. However, Eintracht responded strongly, going into the break with a lead thanks to rare goals from Arthur Theate and Mahmoud Dahoud.

Jonathan Burkardt added a second-half brace, further illustrating his excellent form since transferring from Mainz in the summer. When asked about his limited playing time for the national team, he humbly stated, “I wasn’t used twice, and that made me sad. But in the end, the coach decides what’s best for the team. I just want to continue performing well for Eintracht. And if they need me in the national team, I hope I’ll be there.”

Köln managed to pull back two goals through Marius Bülter and Luca Waldschmidt, providing a tense finish for Dino Topmöller’s side, but they ultimately secured the win, moving up to sixth.

With Undav now back from injury and resuming his scoring form, alongside Burkardt’s impressive performance, this presents a conundrum for Julian Nagelsmann regarding the automatic selection of Newcastle United’s Nick Woltemade for the upcoming North American tour next summer.

Examining the current state of the Bundesliga table reveals three distinct tiers among the 18 teams. Bayern and the six teams chasing them occupy the top seven positions, followed closely by a tight race where just three points separate Union Berlin in 8th from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 12th. The bottom six teams are further divided, separated by five points.

Focusing on the bottom six, Augsburg began the season poorly, suffering consecutive defeats to St. Pauli, Mainz, and Heidenheim. Nevertheless, they have shown improvement, managing victories against two teams in close proximity, Wolfsburg and Hamburg. Alarmingly for Hamburg, they have lost to all three teams directly beneath them: rivals St. Pauli and Wolfsburg at home, followed by a defeat to Augsburg on Matchday 11.

Earlier in the season, Gladbach was part of this bottom-six group, but under the stewardship of new head coach Eugen Polanski, they have risen up the table. Their third consecutive Bundesliga victory came against bottom club Heidenheim this weekend.

Whether any of the other teams in the bottom six can emulate Gladbach’s resurgence remains uncertain, setting the stage for an intense six-team struggle to avoid relegation this season.

Kicking off the weekend, Mainz and Hoffenheim played to a 1-1 draw. While the match lacked flair, Danny Da Costa equalized for the home team following a goalmouth scramble.

Bayern, after trailing by two goals, rallied to defeat Freiburg 6-2 at the Allianz Arena, with notable performances including a brace from Michael Olise and, as always, a goal from Harry Kane.

Leverkusen achieved a comfortable 3-1 victory against Wolfsburg, while Gladbach triumphed 3-0 over Heidenheim. Union Berlin completed the weekend with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Millerntor, marking St. Pauli’s eighth consecutive Bundesliga defeat. Despite the ongoing losses, head coach Alexander Blessin still appears to have the backing of the St. Pauli management, though it remains to be seen how long they can endure this losing streak without contemplating a change.
