It was later revealed that Ibrahim Sadiq was in an offside position and obstructed play.

Referee Danny Makkelie commented on the disallowed goal, stating, “He blocks Gaaei, which is obstruction from an offside position, so according to the rules, it is offside.” Makkelie further noted that despite VAR official Rob Dieperink being completely convinced of the decision, he felt it necessary to review the footage himself. “After seeing the replay, I knew within two seconds that the decision was clear-cut. I believe this was an excellent decision.”
