Calvert Lewin Shines for Leeds with Record Equalling StreakCalvert Lewin Shines for Leeds with Record Equalling Streak

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who departed Everton at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season after his contract expired, joined newly promoted Leeds United as a free agent during the summer transfer window. His signing has proven to be a resounding success, as he has already netted eight goals in the Premier League.

In a recent match against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, Daniel Farke’s side faced a formidable opponent. The hosts took an early lead in the first half with Simon Adingra scoring in the 28th minute. However, Calvert-Lewin leveled the score just two minutes into the second half, securing a crucial point for his team.

This goal against Sunderland marked Calvert-Lewin’s sixth consecutive scoring game in the Premier League this season. His streak began with a goal against Manchester City on November 29, contributing to a remarkable seven goals in his last six matches, which includes a double against Crystal Palace last weekend.

Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy still holds the record for the longest consecutive scoring streak in the league for the Foxes, with eight straight games in 2019. Meanwhile, Tottenham icon Harry Kane has achieved a five-match scoring streak twice but has not reached six in a row.

Calvert-Lewin’s achievement also equaled a 65-year-old Leeds record, making him the first player to score in six consecutive top-flight matches since John McCole accomplished this feat during the 1959/60 season.

In their return to the Premier League this season, Leeds invested £100 million (€114 million/$132 million) over the summer to bolster their squad. Despite this significant expenditure, the team has struggled for consistency, currently sitting in the lower half of the league table.

Nonetheless, Farke’s squad has gained momentum in recent weeks, remaining unbeaten in their last four league matches, which include a victory over Chelsea and a draw against reigning champions Liverpool, temporarily lifting them out of the relegation zone.

Looking ahead, Farke is planning to make further investments in the upcoming transfer window and is reportedly targeting a €20 million (£17.5 million/$23.5 million) move for Sevilla star Ruben Vargas. The Switzerland international has quickly become a regular for Sevilla since his arrival from Augsburg and has made 13 appearances this season, scoring three goals and providing four assists.

Farke will be hoping his team can build on this recent momentum and strive to remain unbeaten in the coming fixtures. However, January 2026 presents a challenging schedule, with matches against Liverpool, Manchester United, and Newcastle United on January 1, 4, and 7, respectively.
