Camavinga Offers Guidance to Endrick After Lyon MoveCamavinga Offers Guidance to Endrick After Lyon Move

Eduardo Camavinga has shared advice with his friend Endrick following the latter’s loan transfer from Real Madrid to Lyon. The young Brazilian striker is eager to secure regular first-team opportunities in France after a total of 40 appearances with Real Madrid, where he scored seven goals. Prior to his time in Europe, Endrick netted 21 goals in 82 matches for Palmeiras. His move to Lyon marks a significant step as he strives to make a substantial impact in Ligue 1. Despite earning 14 caps for Brazil, he has yet to fully establish himself as a first-team player in Europe. After joining Lyon, Endrick was seen wearing green, prompting Camavinga to ensure that he avoids such a mistake in the future.

Camavinga reached out to his former Real Madrid teammate with a message that Endrick displayed on his phone. The message read: “Brother, you should know your team’s arch-rivals are Saint-Etienne, so never wear green!”

The rivalry between Lyon and Saint-Etienne, known as ‘Le Derby,’ dates back to 1951. The clubs are located a mere 31 miles apart and have faced each other 126 times, with Lyon winning 47 matches, Saint-Etienne winning 45, and 35 draws recorded. Scoring in this derby could enhance Endrick’s popularity among Lyon’s supporters, a fanbase that distinctly differs from the blue-collar roots of Saint-Etienne.

Lyon’s fans have already demonstrated overwhelming support for Endrick’s signing, as the announcement video on Instagram exceeded 17 million views. Nearly 15 million viewers watched the announcement within the first 24 hours, setting a record for the club’s most-watched social media video, surpassing a prior record held by Tyler Morton’s imitation of Ronaldinho, which received 2.9 million views.

According to The Athletic, Lyon has agreed to cover part of Endrick’s salary, and Real Madrid will receive compensation if he does not play a minimum of 25 games for the club between January and the end of the season. Due to regulations in France, Endrick will not be eligible to play against Monaco on January 3 and may instead debut against LOSC on January 11 in the French Cup.

Endrick is determined to prove his capabilities ahead of the 2026 World Cup, as Brazil aims for its sixth title. The Selecao is set to face Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland in the group stages, taking place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Endrick has expressed concerns about his selection if he remained at Real Madrid, stating: “I’m worried…because it’s my dream to be at the World Cup. It’s even difficult to speak about that. I want to help Brazil to win the sixth World Cup.”

Brazil’s head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, has expressed confidence in Endrick’s talent but clarified that he did not advise him to leave the Bernabeu. Ancelotti remarked, “He’s a very important player because he’s one of the talents to have emerged from Brazilian football. We are evaluating him. However, it’s not accurate that I told Endrick to leave Real Madrid for the World Cup. The decision is between Real Madrid and the player. He must discuss with the club to determine what is best for both himself and Real Madrid.”

Ancelotti further noted: “Yes, I spoke with him [Endrick] at the beginning of this season. He was injured, but now he is fine and back. He needs to consider, alongside his entourage, what is best. He should communicate with the club to evaluate the optimal path forward. Endrick is very young; this won’t be his only World Cup. He could participate in the 2026 World Cup, as he has the quality, and possibly in the 2030 World Cup, the 2034 World Cup, or even the 2038 World Cup. It’s crucial for him to return to playing and showcase his talents.”
