This season has seen significant developments regarding the captaincy issue at Feyenoord. Initially, Robin van Persie stripped Quinten Timber of the captaincy, and during the winter break, he did the same to Sem Steijn. With the impending arrival of Mats Deijl, there may be yet another change.

Mats Deijl could potentially become the new captain of Feyenoord. Approximately two weeks ago, Van Persie appointed Timon Wellenreuther as the captain after taking the armband from Steijn. However, this situation might soon change again, as Feyenoord has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Deijl, who is set to transfer from Go Ahead Eagles. The 28-year-old right-back currently serves as captain of the Deventer team, which increases the likelihood of him donning the armband in Rotterdam-South.

The removal of the captaincy from Timber by Van Persie earlier this season was not well-received by the midfielder. Tensions escalated recently following a candid interview Timber gave to ESPN, which reportedly led to a confrontation between him and Van Persie in the locker room. Timber, however, has stated that such an incident never occurred.
