Carragher Critiques Salah Amid Liverpool s StrugglesCarragher Critiques Salah Amid Liverpool s Struggles

omidbasir- A year ago, Jamie Carragher labeled Mohamed Salah as “selfish” for voicing his disappointment over Liverpool’s failure to extend his contract. On Sky Sports, Carragher articulated that the priority for Liverpool should be winning the Premier League rather than focusing on individual players like Salah, Virgil van Dijk, or Trent Alexander-Arnold. He stated, “The most crucial aspect for Liverpool this season is not the future of Mo Salah or others; it is winning the Premier League. If Salah continues to publicly express his discontent, that is selfish, as it prioritizes personal interests over the football club.”

In response, the Egyptian international countered Carragher’s comments. However, the dispute subsided when Salah secured a two-year contract with Liverpool. Fast forward to the present, and Carragher has once again taken aim at Salah following Liverpool’s disappointing position in the league, currently sitting in 12th place after losing six of their last seven matches.

Salah, much like Liverpool, has struggled to make an impactful contribution this season. After an impressive tally of 34 goals last season, he has managed only five in 17 matches this term. Following a 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, captain Van Dijk emphasized that every player must take responsibility to address the current issues plaguing the team, urging his teammates to rectify the situation. Carragher echoed this sentiment, suggesting that Salah should step up as a leader.

Before Manchester United’s recent match against Everton, Carragher stated on Monday Night Football: “Virgil van Dijk has consistently taken on the responsibility of addressing the team’s struggles as captain. While it is commendable, other players should also be vocal in the dressing room. A year ago, Salah was vocal about his contract situation. I would like to see him assume a leadership role for the team, rather than only speaking up when he is awarded man of the match or negotiating a new contract. While the manager is under pressure given the team’s results, Salah, as a significant figure in the club, should contribute to the dialogue.”

Meanwhile, manager Arne Slot expressed disappointment over Liverpool’s recent performances but remained optimistic about finding solutions. After spending over £400 million on new players this summer, he believes that improvement is imminent. When asked about the players’ confidence levels, he responded, “I do not perceive a lack of confidence. After conceding a goal, we struggled to regain momentum, but the players continued to put in effort. We must evaluate what we can improve upon to prevent conceding goals. Although we haven’t scored in our last two games, the solution is not far off.”

Liverpool aims to recover from their loss to Nottingham Forest as they prepare to face PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League at Anfield on Wednesday. The Reds have had a more favorable experience in European competitions this season, making this match a prime opportunity to revitalize their campaign. Following this, they will contest against West Ham, Sunderland, Leeds United, and Inter Milan in just ten days.
