Jamie Carragher has previously engaged in discussions regarding Mohamed Salah’s future, labeling the Egyptian international a “disgrace” after a post-match interview in which Salah expressed discontent with the club, stating he felt sidelined before the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In his critique, Carragher remarked, “I considered his actions after the game to be disgraceful. While some may view it as an emotional outburst, I believe it was a calculated move. Salah rarely stops to speak in mixed zones, and when he does, it is strategically planned with his agent to maximize impact and strengthen his own position. He did this a year ago, and I called him out on it.

“He played on the emotions of Liverpool supporters at a time when the club was at the top of the league, having just scored the winning goal against Southampton. It was a strategic moment to exert pressure on the Liverpool ownership. He waited for a disappointing result to target the manager, potentially aiming for his dismissal.”

Recently, however, Carragher has suggested that Salah may leave Liverpool at the end of the season, acknowledging the player as an “all-time great” in a possible gesture of reconciliation.

In his column for The Telegraph, he stated, “Will Mohamed Salah still be at Liverpool on February 1, 2026, or September 1, 2026? The answer is both yes and no. Given the current injury concerns following Alexander Isak’s broken leg, Liverpool cannot afford to part ways with Salah in the January transfer window.

“Following the recent tensions, the Africa Cup of Nations provides a timely opportunity for all parties to regroup. Nevertheless, the upcoming months may evolve into a prolonged farewell for Salah. This current era at Liverpool will be forever linked to him, and an emotional send-off at the end of this season would be fitting.”

Carragher also shared his aspirations for 2026, including a light-hearted jab at fellow Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville, and a nod to Wigan Athletic, where his son, James, is a player. He noted, “My top footballing wish for 2026? Wigan Athletic to gain promotion from League One to the Championship, Liverpool to secure the Champions League title, and for Gary Neville to stop predicting Manchester United will finish in the top four. At least two of those three are plausible.”

He further expressed confidence in Arsenal’s chances of winning the league, stating, “They possess the best squad, and everything is in place for them to end a 22-year title drought. If they succeed, it will be due to a solid foundation built around their goalkeeper, central defenders, and Declan Rice.”

Liverpool’s next challenge is against Fulham as they strive to maintain their position within the top four. Currently, the Reds find themselves 15 points behind league leaders Arsenal, prompting a shift in focus towards securing Champions League qualification.
