Michael Carrick shares a light moment with striker Benjamin Sesko following Manchester United’s victory over Fulham.

The head coach of Manchester United, Michael Carrick, asserts that it would be “boring and pointless” not to celebrate winning matches. Under Carrick’s leadership, the team has secured four consecutive victories. While he typically emphasizes the need for caution and not getting overly excited, he acknowledges the necessity of savoring the joy that comes with success.

Currently sitting in fourth place in the Premier League, a win against West Ham United on Wednesday could solidify their position for a Champions League berth. “You’ve got to enjoy the buzz of winning; that’s what we’re in it for,” Carrick stated, having taken over from Ruben Amorim last month.

“You can’t just be flat-lined all the time. You need to experience the waves of emotion. It would be a bit dull and pointless if you didn’t, as winning is what we all strive for. The real challenge lies in recognizing the hard work and preparation that got you here. Winning a football match at this level is challenging, so you can never take the next game for granted.”

Carrick’s former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, was known for his stern criticism even after victories, which helped prevent complacency among his players. However, Carrick has chosen a different approach, stating, “there is a time and a place for everything.”

Yet, his laid-back attitude does not extend to Frank Ilett’s unkempt hairstyle, which has gained attention on social media. Ilett, who hails from Oxford but now resides in Spain, vowed not to cut his hair until Manchester United achieved five consecutive victories in October 2024, during Erik ten Hag’s tenure.

Despite the lightheartedness of the situation, not everyone has been supportive; Ilett was reportedly attacked by a fellow fan at a game who believed his challenge was merely a publicity stunt.

“My children have informed me about it,” Carrick remarked. “I find it amusing, but it certainly won’t influence our professional team discussions.”

Carrick was also seen celebrating with defender Luke Shaw after their 2-0 win against Tottenham.
