Casemiro s Resurgence and Manchester United s Midfield StrategyCasemiro s Resurgence and Manchester United s Midfield Strategy

Casemiro’s recent performances have been nothing short of exceptional. His contributions, including a goal and an assist in United’s 4–2 victory over Brighton, along with a commanding display during the club’s first win at Anfield in nearly a decade, underscore his ongoing impact. Furthermore, his match-winning goal against Chelsea in September highlights that his competitive spirit remains strong. However, there is an undeniable reality to consider: at 33 years old, with numerous miles on his legs, he is not getting any younger. Manager Amorim has been prudent in managing Casemiro’s playing time, and he believes that while the veteran continues to excel, an additional marquee signing is essential for the squad’s future.

Manchester United has been monitoring Carlos Baleba for several months. However, Brighton has firmly stated their valuation at no less than £115 million ($153 million), a figure equivalent to what Chelsea spent on Moises Caicedo. This price tag has deterred United’s hierarchy, resulting in the shelving of the deal. As Amorim’s midfield strategy for the upcoming summer begins to take shape, and with Casemiro still anchoring the midfield, calls to renew interest in Baleba are intensifying, notably from former Old Trafford striker Louis Saha.

In an interview with OLBG, Saha remarked, “Fabinho was very influential for Liverpool, and Rodri has played a similar role for Man City. A strong midfielder who excels in transitions, providing both power and stability, is invaluable, and such players are scarce. We’ve heard discussions regarding Carlos Baleba’s potential transfer, and I admire his style.

“It is evident that there is a pressing need for a player who can bring power and control the pace of the game. Currently, United often opts for a more conservative approach, which can hinder the effectiveness of their strikers; thus, an improvement in this area is necessary.”

Saha also commended Casemiro’s recent form, emphasizing that his resurgence in the squad should not be overlooked. “Casemiro has performed admirably, not merely due to his goal-scoring but primarily for his ability to provide stability and resilience during pressure situations. He has managed expectations exceptionally well, bringing a renewed tempo and belief to Manchester United, which deserves recognition.”

Baleba possesses remarkable stamina and tactical awareness, allowing him to anticipate threats proactively. Such attributes have led to comparisons not only with Rodri but also with former United midfielder Michael Carrick. Saha believes that Baleba’s combination of physical and mental prowess aligns perfectly with Amorim’s tactical framework.

“I long for the qualities of Michael Carrick back in our midfield! However, Baleba offers additional utility with his energy and range, enabling Bruno Fernandes to reposition effectively. Young talents like Kobbie Mainoo could also step up if they enhance their understanding of positioning and game momentum.”

Additionally, Saha pointed out that Amorim’s pressing strategy necessitates a midfielder with relentless stamina. Baleba is equipped to push the defensive line further up the pitch and recover quickly when needed. “There is a need for a player who can enhance our pressing game while ensuring we maintain defensive integrity during counter-attacks,” he stated.

Despite United’s renewed interest in Baleba, Brighton has made it clear that he is not available for transfer this January, as they consider him integral to their long-term aspirations. Consequently, United may have to wait until summer to submit a formal bid. Meanwhile, they are exploring other options to bolster their midfield. Potential alternatives include Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, admired for his versatility, Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace, and Angelo Stiller from Stuttgart, who has a £35 million release clause and is reportedly open to a Premier League move. Among these, Conor Gallagher stands out as the most feasible immediate option, with Atletico Madrid potentially open to a loan arrangement until the season’s conclusion.
