Nearly two years after his transfer from Real Madrid to Old Trafford, where he was celebrated as a multiple Champions League winner, Casemiro’s performances for Manchester United came under scrutiny.

Initially, doubts were cast regarding his impact, especially as the team grappled with inconsistency. Jamie Carragher, the former Liverpool defender, was one of the critics, suggesting that United should consider parting ways with the midfielder as soon as possible, especially following a disheartening 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace.

Carragher stated, “I think Casemiro, and I mean this seriously, should recognize, as an experienced player, that he likely has only three more matches at the top level: the next two league games and the cup final. He should be contemplating a move to the MLS or Saudi Arabia.”

He reminisced about Casemiro’s past achievements, referencing his time spent alongside great players like Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, and how he could compete against legendary midfielders from Barcelona.

Reflecting on his own career, Carragher recalled a sentiment he held as a player: “Leave the football before the football leaves you.”

Contrary to the initial skepticism, Casemiro has made Carragher reconsider his stance. The 33-year-old has been instrumental in United’s recent three-match winning streak under interim manager Michael Carrick, which includes notable victories against Manchester City, Arsenal, and Fulham.

In a riveting match against Fulham, Casemiro not only scored but also provided an assist with a deft no-look pass to Matheus Cunha, contributing to a thrilling 3-2 triumph.

As he approaches free agency, Casemiro’s performance has been noteworthy, leading to confirmations of a summer exit from Manchester.

In an apology to Casemiro, Carragher remarked on Sky Sports: “What Casemiro is doing at Manchester United has earned him a warm reception as he leaves at the season’s end. His first season was stellar, and now he is finishing strongly. There’s no doubt he is an exceptional player. While his middle tenure here was challenging, he has certainly bounced back. It is fair to say that football has not left him, given his impressive contributions this season in the Premier League. If he wishes to respond to my previous comments, he is well within his rights to say, ‘Leave the punditry before it leaves you.'”

Carragher further acknowledged, “His physical appearance has transformed as well. At one point, he seemed like a player nearing the end of his career, but now he appears revitalized and professional.”

Casemiro’s resurgence has propelled Manchester United into the Premier League’s top four as they pursue Champions League qualification. While the team is no longer in domestic cup competitions and lacks European football, there is optimism that Casemiro will depart on a high note, symbolizing hope for a brighter future at Old Trafford.
