omidbasir- Cádiz is once again considering Federico Gattoni, a long-desired target that reemerged during this winter transfer window after Sevilla formally offered him. Following modest stints at Anderlecht and River Plate, the Argentine center-back is eager for a destination to rejuvenate his career, and the club sees the Nuevo Mirandilla as an ideal venue for him to regain prominence. However, what initially appears to be a market opportunity has encountered the stark reality of the club’s financial situation.

The primary obstacle preventing a successful transaction are Sevilla’s financial demands. The Nervión-based club insists that Cádiz cover 100% of the player’s salary, a figure that is untenable for a second-division team and was the reason for rejecting his acquisition last season when the team was still in the top tier. Currently, financial austerity and damage control are the top priorities for Cádiz management.

Beyond the financial aspects, Gattoni’s profile does not fully align with the sporting strategy that Cádiz is pursuing during this transfer window. The club is unwilling to make extraordinary efforts for players who may not adapt immediately or who could jeopardize the salary stability of the squad. Unless Sevilla significantly lowers its demands, the Argentine center-back will remain a recurring name on the agenda but unlikely to don the yellow jersey.

Cádiz is not the only option for Gattoni. The Sevilla defender is also on Independiente’s radar. Sevilla prefers a transfer over a loan but is considering various scenarios. Gattoni was registered with LaLiga last week, a necessary step for either a loan or transfer, and he was included in the squad for Saturday’s match against Athletic. If his exit occurs via loan, it would mark the third such arrangement for the player since joining Sevilla in the summer of 2023.
