Celta Concludes Europa League Group Stage Against Red StarCelta Concludes Europa League Group Stage Against Red Star

omidbasir- Celta Vigo will conclude the group stage of the Europa League this Thursday in Belgrade against Red Star. They have already qualified for the Round of 16, but their chances of finishing in the top 8 are very slim. The team, under the guidance of Claudio Giráldez, is currently in 14th place, having accumulated 12 points over seven matches.

To secure a spot in the top 8, several teams would need to falter, which seems almost implausible. The objective now is to achieve the best possible ranking for the next round while also aiming to gain a home advantage. Notably, the squad has found greater success at home, winning three of their four victories at Balaídos, with their only away win occurring in Zagreb against Dinamo (0-3).

Red Star poses a significant challenge, being also qualified for the knockout stage but holding one more point than Celta, giving them a better chance of contending for the top positions. Sergio Álvarez, a former Celta goalkeeper and current advisor, emphasized the importance of this match, stating, “It is crucial to continue accumulating points in Europe and for the players to gain experience in such matches. Winning would enhance our chances of finishing among the top eight. If not, we aim to land as high as possible to play the return leg of the next round at Balaídos.”

Regarding Red Star, he remarked, “We know they are a tough opponent, particularly at their stadium, where the atmosphere is intense. However, these matches are vital for our players’ development and experience. We hope to conclude this group stage with a victory.”

Although this match is not decisive, approximately 800 Celta supporters are expected to cheer for Giráldez’s team from the stands.
