Celta Vigo has not dismissed the possibility of securing a loan for Fer López in January, and the player himself expresses a desire to return to Vigo just six months after his transfer to Wolverhampton. However, it is widely agreed that this dream is nearly impossible to realize.

As a youth product of Celta, López has seen minimal playing time at the English club, which is currently at the bottom of the Premier League. He has accumulated just 117 minutes over five league matches, contributing one assist. Additionally, he has appeared in two EFL Cup matches, totaling 118 minutes. In the last seven Premier League fixtures, he has played only 14 minutes.

Transferred in June for €23 million at the age of 21, Fer López is in urgent need of more playing time, which he is not receiving in England. He is aware that his role would be significantly different under coach Claudio Giráldez. Last season, Giráldez gave López his first-team debut and provided him with opportunities in 20 official matches during the latter two-thirds of the season, where he scored four goals and delivered one assist. The coach would undoubtedly welcome his return but understands the considerable difficulties involved.

For Celta, the financial implications of López’s salary, even if reduced, are untenable. The club would need to create salary cap space to facilitate his arrival, which may require the departure of players such as Aidoo, who is currently getting some playing time, Cervi, who aims to stay until June, or Marc Vidal, whose exit also appears challenging.

As the coming weeks unfold, the prospects for Fer López’s loan in January seem exceedingly slim. We will see if any elements of this situation come to fruition, but it appears to be a complex challenge.
