Celta Vigo announced on Wednesday, January 6, the loan of Damián Rodríguez Sousa to Racing de Santander until the end of the season. The young midfielder, seeking more playing time, will join the current leaders of the Segunda División after not featuring prominently in Vigo this season.

This season, Damián has participated in only six matches: two in La Liga, three in the Europa League, and one in the Copa del Rey, scoring one goal and accumulating a total of 377 minutes on the pitch.

The Viguese club, along with head coach Claudio Giráldez—who promoted him to the first team and has been a strong supporter—envisions Damián as part of their plans for the upcoming season. It is believed that this loan will be beneficial for his growth and provide him with significant minutes in a team competing for promotion to La Liga.

Damián has progressed through all the youth categories of Celta, reaching the first team nearly two years ago. He is contracted with the club until 2028.

In an official statement, Celta Vigo expressed their best wishes for Damián’s success in this new chapter of his career, confident that he will continue to develop and make an impact.

Born on March 17, 2003, in Ponteareas (Pontevedra), Damián developed through Celta’s youth system, making his debut with the club’s B team in May 2021. He made his first-team debut in La Liga against Sevilla FC on March 17, 2024, having played a total of 29 matches for the first team and 56 for Celta B.

As a Racing Santander player, Damián will wear the number 23 jersey and has been called up to the Spanish U21 national team for an upcoming match against Hungary.

Damián Rodríguez will be officially presented as a Racing Santander player on Wednesday, January 7, at 1:30 PM, following the Copa del Rey draw at El Sardinero.
