Florian Plettenberg reports that Celtic Glasgow is interested in acquiring central defender Auréle Amenda on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt. The 22-year-old has faced challenges in securing regular playing time since his €9.5 million transfer from Young Boys Bern prior to the 2024/25 season, having made only 16 Bundesliga appearances over the past 18 months.

Following the collapse of a potential transfer to Serie A’s Torino FC this summer, Amenda has primarily remained on the bench this season. Eintracht’s head coach, Dino Toppmöller, has only given him three Bundesliga starts, with one additional appearance in the Champions League. Despite being a four-time capped Swiss international, Amenda has struggled to make a significant impact, managing only 12 appearances in total.

A particularly disappointing performance against Stuttgart midweek resulted in Amenda sitting out during last night’s 3-3 Bundesliga draw against Werder Bremen, even as Toppmöller’s team was in dire need of defensive reinforcements. Given the situation, it appears that the €6 million-valued player may not have a long-term future with his current club, and he has reportedly submitted a transfer request.

In related news, Rangers have confirmed the loan signing of winger Andreas Skov Olsen. The competitive landscape in Scottish football intensifies as both of Glasgow’s major clubs continue to pursue Edinburgh’s Heart of Midlothian, led by Bundesliga veteran Alexander Schwolow, in a bid to break the 40-year dominance of the Scottish Premiership by Glaswegian teams. It seems that another Bundesliga player could soon join this intriguing rivalry.
