Celtic Manager Prioritizes Character in New SigningsCeltic Manager Prioritizes Character in New Signings

Celtic manager Wilfried Nancy has underscored the necessity for new signings to not only possess the required skill but also exemplify the right character for the club.

Following a challenging start to his tenure at Parkhead, Nancy is poised to strengthen his squad with the upcoming January transfer window. He believes that acquiring players who can thrive under the pressure of representing Celtic will be crucial to the club’s recruitment success.

“We have considerable talent in our playing style,” Nancy remarked in anticipation of Saturday’s match against Livingston, currently at the bottom of the William Hill Premiership.

“It’s vital that new signings possess a strong personality. This is a major club, and playing here can be quite demanding. It’s extremely important to have players capable of succeeding in an environment like this.”

Nancy referenced Scotland defender Kieran Tierney and team captain Callum McGregor as exemplars of the types of personalities he seeks to cultivate within the squad.

“Everyone knows Kieran; I was aware of his qualities even before arriving here. He holds significant value for us. Different personalities are essential, and while Kieran may not be a vocal leader, he certainly demonstrates his capabilities on the pitch.

“Callum, on the other hand, is both a vocal leader and a player who leads by example. We have several individuals with similar attributes.

“When I speak of personality, I mean more than just vocal presence; it also encompasses the right attitude during challenging moments.

“This means that even in the midst of an attack, can we continue to support one another? Can we maintain our pressing game? Can we defend tenaciously when needed? For me, it boils down to attitude, which is precisely what I am seeking.”

In addition, Nancy expressed his desire for forward Daizen Maeda to remain with Celtic, emphasizing the importance of player happiness in the club’s future.
