Florian Plettenberg reports that Celtic is actively pursuing a loan deal for Freiburg striker Junior Adamu. Two other unnamed clubs are also showing interest in the nine-time capped Austrian international. However, Plettenberg asserts that Celtic’s interest is “very concrete.”

Under the previous SC Freiburg head coach Christian Streich, Adamu saw minimal playing time during the 2023/24 campaign. His fortunes changed at the beginning of last season when he thrived under Julian Schuster, scoring two goals in Freiburg’s opening match of the 2024/25 Pokal and netting another two in a victory against Bochum three matches into the season.

Unfortunately, Adamu’s goal-scoring form did not continue, as he failed to add any further goals throughout the remainder of the season. This year, with one Bundesliga goal and one Europa League goal to his name, he has fallen out of Schuster’s plans altogether. Adamu has remained unused on the bench for the last four league matches, with Freiburg favoring alternatives such as veteran Lucas Höler and the up-and-coming Igor Matanovic.

Despite these challenges, the 24-year-old striker retains an estimated market value of €5 million and has earned three caps with the national team this year. Adamu was previously regarded as one of the top strikers in the Austrian Bundesliga while playing for RB Salzburg.
