Sky Germany reports that Chelsea has the option to recall defender Aaron Anselmino from his loan at Borussia Dortmund.

Anselmino joined Dortmund on a temporary deal last summer, and the agreement includes a clause allowing Chelsea to recall the Argentine player during the winter transfer window.

This information was confirmed by Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, during their training camp in Marbella. He stated, “We are planning with him for the second half of the season. Ultimately, however, it is of course a matter of contract negotiations. Chelsea also has certain expectations, given the situation we were in at the time.”

Kehl further added, “I believe it makes sense for everyone involved that Aarón also plays for Borussia Dortmund in the second half of the season, to help us, himself, and ultimately Chelsea as well.”

The future of Anselmino will depend on the new head coach of Chelsea, following Enzo Maresca’s departure. With Liam Rosenior, currently head coach at Strasbourg, set to take over at Chelsea, if he sees potential in the Argentine defender, he may request his return.

After a challenging start to his time in Germany, Anselmino’s performance has improved significantly in recent weeks leading up to the winter break. Given Dortmund’s need for quality depth in their defense, the 20-year-old represents a valuable asset in Niko Kovac’s back three, which includes Nico Schlotterbeck.
