Chelsea Football Club has made the decisive move to part ways with Head Coach Enzo Maresca on New Year’s Day, following a rapid deterioration in the relationship between him and the board over the past month.

In an official statement, the club announced: “Chelsea Football Club and Head Coach Enzo Maresca have parted company. During his tenure, Enzo led the team to notable victories in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. These achievements will remain significant milestones in the club’s recent history, and we extend our gratitude for his contributions.

“With key objectives still on the horizon across four competitions, including qualification for Champions League football, both Enzo and the club agree that a change is necessary to realign the team’s trajectory for the remainder of the season. We wish Enzo the best in his future endeavors.”

Rosenior has emerged as a surprising frontrunner to take over the managerial position at Stamford Bridge. The former Fulham and Reading full-back currently manages Strasbourg, a club that, like Chelsea, is under BlueCo ownership, and he has successfully led the French team to a seventh-place standing in Ligue 1 ahead of their upcoming match against Nice.

Chelsea’s announcement coincides with Strasbourg’s return from their winter break, following a 2-1 victory over Dunkerque in the Coupe de France just days before Christmas. In response to the speculation surrounding his potential move to Chelsea, Rosenior emphasized his focus on his current role, labeling the rumors as mere “speculation.”

He stated, “I’m here to discuss Nice because that is my responsibility. There is a lot of noise and speculation, but as a coach, engaging with that can lead to failure. My commitment is to this club.

“No, I haven’t discussed this with the players; there’s no need. We’re all connected and have shared some light-hearted moments. However, our focus remains on our work, and our goal is to continue achieving great things here.

“In life, there are no guarantees. You never know what tomorrow may hold. I’m simply fulfilling my duties. Speculation is already present; I can’t promise how long I’ll remain here, but I enjoy my time every day. I love this club, although guarantees are impossible.

“My aim is straightforward: to do my job. The reality is that I am the manager of Strasbourg, and my attention is on my role.

“There are discussions because we are part of the same group.

“I’m candid; you can’t control everything in life. I could insist I will stay for years and still find myself dismissed.”

While various prominent names have been associated with the Chelsea vacancy, figures such as Cesc Fabregas, Oliver Glasner, and Francesco Farioli have been ruled out. Brief speculation also hinted at pursuing more illustrious names, including Champions League winners Zinedine Zidane and Jurgen Klopp; however, neither aligns with the current model at Stamford Bridge.

As deliberations continue regarding the next permanent manager, Under-21s coach Calum McFarlane will oversee Chelsea’s challenging match against Manchester City on Sunday. The 40-year-old described the past 24 hours as “crazy” since Maresca’s departure and expressed excitement about leading the team at the Etihad Stadium.
