Chivas de Guadalajara Set to Approach Gutierrez Amid International Interest

Chivas de Guadalajara is expected to initiate an official inquiry regarding player Gutierrez in the near future, as reported by sources to GOAL. Although no formal offer or transfer fee has been discussed at this time, communication between the clubs is anticipated soon.

This interest follows Gutierrez’s recent acquisition of a Mexican passport. Historically, Chivas has exclusively signed Mexican players; however, they have shown greater flexibility in recent years, exemplified by their signing of Mexican-American forward Cade Cowell, who has represented the U.S. at the senior level.

Gutierrez’s new passport may also influence his international career. Sources indicate that the Mexican Football Federation has contacted him to assess his interest in potentially joining the national team, El Tri.

As of now, no decisions have been made ahead of the upcoming November international break—the final one of 2025. However, Mexico is expected to conduct training camps in preparation for the 2026 World Cup, which may provide further opportunities for players to secure a spot on the team.

Having represented the U.S. at multiple youth levels, Gutierrez earned two senior caps earlier this year after participating in the USMNT’s January camp. He was subsequently named to Mauricio Pochettino’s preliminary Gold Cup roster but has not played for the national team since.

Originally from Berwyn, Illinois, Gutierrez joined the Chicago Fire academy in 2015 and signed a Homegrown contract in 2020. Since then, he has made 149 MLS appearances across all competitions, helping the Chicago Fire end their playoff drought this season with a trip to the postseason.

Unfortunately, Chicago’s campaign concluded in the MLS Playoffs after a two-game defeat to the top-seeded Philadelphia Union. The Fire had advanced past the Wild Card round with a 3-1 victory over Orlando City, marking their first postseason win since 2009.

With the season now finished, attention shifts to Gutierrez’s future amidst increasing interest from clubs abroad.
