Chris Wood Undergoes Surgery Faces Extended Absence from Nottingham ForestChris Wood Undergoes Surgery Faces Extended Absence from Nottingham Forest

Chris Wood joined Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United in 2023, initially on loan before signing a permanent deal that summer.

The Nottingham Forest striker is now facing another extended absence from the pitch after undergoing surgery. The New Zealand international has been sidelined since mid-October due to a knee issue and has yet to make an appearance under new manager Sean Dyche, who replaced Ange Postecoglou.

Last season, the 34-year-old made a significant impact at the City Ground, netting 20 goals in 40 appearances, helping the team qualify for European competition. However, this season has seen his playing time drastically reduced, as he has managed only two goals in nine appearances.

While Wood did not disclose the specifics of his surgery, he has been spotted wearing a knee brace while attending recent Forest matches.

Reflecting on his situation, Wood expressed his disappointment on Instagram: “This Christmas is one I didn’t expect; you never know what football will throw at you. From the highs of last season to the current personal battles and lows of this season, you must be prepared for anything. It’s truly gutting and frustrating to be sidelined for another period. However, it is necessary to return stronger and better to support my teammates in the Premier League and Europe.”

Wood’s last match was during Postecoglou’s final game in charge, where Nottingham Forest suffered a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on October 18.
