Chris Wood joined Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United in 2023, initially on loan before signing a permanent deal that summer.

Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood is facing another period on the sidelines after undergoing surgery. The New Zealand international has been unavailable since mid-October due to a knee issue and has yet to play under new manager Sean Dyche, who took over from Ange Postecoglou.

The 34-year-old had an impressive season at the City Ground last year, netting 20 goals in 40 appearances, which helped the team qualify for European competition. However, his playing time has been significantly limited this season, with only two goals in nine appearances.

While the specifics of his surgery have not been disclosed, Wood has been spotted wearing a knee brace while attending recent matches.

In a recent Instagram post, Wood reflected on his unexpected challenges: “The Christmas I didn’t expect; you can never know what football throws at you. From the highs of last season to now the battles and the lows personally of this season, you have to be ready for anything.”

He added, “Truly gutting and frustrating that I’ll be on the sideline for another period of time. It’s what’s needed to come back stronger and better to help my teammates do the job needed in the Premier League and in Europe.”

Wood’s last appearance was in Postecoglou’s final match as manager, a 3-0 defeat against Chelsea on October 18.
