Claudio Gir ldez Reflects on Team Evolution and Upcoming ChallengesClaudio Gir ldez Reflects on Team Evolution and Upcoming Challenges

Claudio Giráldez addressed the evolution of his team since his debut nearly two years ago at the Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium, as well as the strength of Sevilla, the positive performance in the first half of the season, and the departures of players Damián and potentially Marc Vidal, ahead of Monday’s match.

Reflecting on his debut at the Sánchez-Pizjuán 22 months ago, Giráldez remarked, “It was hard to imagine everything would go as well as it has over these two years. This stadium holds a special place in my heart; it was a memorable day for me. I believe I have remained the same person and the same type of coach, always striving to evolve, grow, and improve, which has been my lifelong pursuit in both personal and professional aspects.”

He noted the differences in the upcoming match compared to their last encounter two years ago: “This is a completely different game. I expect a wounded opponent after their recent home game. They have demonstrated a very high level both individually and as a team. When they are intense, they are one of the most physically demanding teams in the league, with great capacity to recover the ball and press high up the pitch.”

Regarding objectives, Giráldez stated, “We are much closer to the club’s primary goal, which is to remain in the top division next season. The points accumulated in the first half have been promising. Finishing in seventh place is a strong position in the standings. We recognize that there are areas for improvement and that we still have the opportunity to conclude the first half of the season on a high note in Sevilla.”

Discussing the departure of Damián, he commented, “He was likely the player I trained the longest in the current squad. We share a very good personal relationship. In professional football, we believe it was best for all parties involved. We have five players in that position, and his loan will provide him with a chance to further develop his defensive skills and physicality.”

On the potential exit of Marc Vidal, Giráldez noted, “He is one of the players who has an opportunity to leave. There are other teammates in similar situations. Some players might not be interested in leaving at this time, which is entirely respectable. Others are seeking opportunities elsewhere. We will monitor this as the transfer window progresses. The crucial point is that we do not weaken our squad. If Marc does leave, we have resources available within the reserve and youth teams, including talented goalkeepers, to step in.”
