Sky Germany reports that Cole Campbell, the winger from Borussia Dortmund, is set to join Hoffenheim on a loan deal for the remainder of the season.

This agreement is structured as a six-month loan with an initial fee of €1.5 million. Should Hoffenheim choose to activate the purchase option included in the contract, the total value of the deal could increase to €10 million, with the purchase option valued at a minimum of €7 million. Furthermore, if Campbell secures regular playing time under head coach Christian Ilzer, the loan fee may be adjusted downward.

The U.S. youth international will travel to Hoffenheim’s winter training camp in Girona from Borussia Dortmund’s current camp in Marbella. Despite being only 19 years old, Campbell has managed just 16 minutes of playtime for the Dortmund first team this season. With the World Cup approaching in his home country, he is eager to seize opportunities that may enhance his chances of selection for the squad. Recently, Campbell has encountered some disciplinary challenges with head coach Niko Kovac.

Last summer, Campbell was on the verge of leaving Dortmund for VfB Stuttgart; however, that transfer ultimately fell through. Capable of playing on either wing, Campbell offers valuable depth as a backup to Bazoumana Toure. With Toure currently participating in the Africa Cup of Nations, Campbell may find himself with the opportunity to showcase his abilities in the Bundesliga once the league resumes.
