Concerns Raised Over AZ’s Decision to Engage Jorge Mendes for Kees Smit’s Transfer

Verweij’s astonishment centers around the mandate given by AZ’s technical director, Max Huiberts, to Mendes. Essentially, Huiberts has communicated the minimum price for Smit while granting Mendes the authority to negotiate with major clubs on the player’s behalf. This decision has left Verweij perplexed. “I find it quite strange that you would engage Mendes. Essentially, it implies that you believe you are not sufficiently competent to negotiate directly with these top clubs, assuming Mendes can secure a better deal,” the journalist remarked during the Kick-off podcast by De Telegraaf.
