LONDON — Ruben Amorim has voiced concerns that Benjamin Sesko may face an extended period on the sidelines following a knee injury sustained during Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham. Sesko, who entered the match as a substitute in the 58th minute, left the field in the 88th minute after a challenge by Spurs defender Micky van de Ven led to his injury. Although the Slovenia international managed to walk off the pitch after receiving treatment, Amorim expressed his worries regarding the severity of Sesko’s condition during the post-match briefing. “We need to assess the situation,” he told reporters. “He has an issue with his knee, so we will have to wait to see the extent of the problem.” When asked if the injury could sideline Sesko for an extended period, Amorim refrained from providing an optimistic outlook. “It is concerning because it involves the knee, and we cannot predict the seriousness of the injury,” he said. “Right now, my primary focus is on his health rather than his performance.” With the impending Africa Cup of Nations, which will see forwards Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo represent Ivory Coast and Cameroon respectively, United may face additional challenges. Morocco’s Noussair Mazraoui is also expected to participate in the tournament. This situation has led Amorim to contemplate potential squad additions in January, especially if Sesko is unavailable. “We need to evaluate everything regarding Ben’s condition, but we are aware that the AFCON will create a challenge for us,” Amorim stated. “We anticipated this situation, and it allows us to prepare in advance. Managing this scenario will be difficult, but we will explore opportunities to strengthen the team as the window opens.” Despite remaining in contention for Champions League qualification after extending their unbeaten Premier League streak to five matches, United has drawn their last two away games, securing late equalizers against both Spurs and Nottingham Forest. Amorim acknowledged that the team could have claimed victory against Tottenham had they exhibited more “bravery.” “We are currently facing several challenges and are at the beginning of our improvement journey; however, we must perform better and display more aggression in such settings,” he remarked. “The three points were within reach. We controlled the game effectively, yet we need to elevate our performance. When we cannot secure a win, we must at least avoid a loss; once again, we managed that. We have substantial growth ahead as a team because today was an opportunity to win. “We must reflect on our approach; we did not press with the necessary intensity. We became too comfortable, but we must recognize that if we had displayed greater bravery, we could have decisively concluded the match.” Post navigation Xabi Alonso Calls for Measured Self-Criticism After Draw with Rayo Vallecano Kolo Muani Suffers Fractured Jaw: Implications for Tottenham and France
