Considerations for Patrick Kluivert s Return to AjaxConsiderations for Patrick Kluivert s Return to Ajax

Ajax commentator Mike Verweij believes that reintroducing Patrick Kluivert to the club would be an excellent option. The former striker has experience as both a coach and a technical director, and Ajax is currently looking for successors to John Heitinga and Alex Kroes for these positions.

In a recent episode of the De Telegraaf podcast “Kick-off,” Valentijn Driessen suggested that Max Huiberts would be the perfect candidate to succeed Kroes at Ajax. Verweij agrees, but he raises an important caveat. “He is someone who can recoup his value in just six months. Like Marc Overmars, he has secured significant financial gains for the club. While I concur that Max Huiberts would be an excellent choice, Ajax needs to rediscover its core identity. We cannot have solely academicians like Marijn Beuker in charge; if they govern the situation, it will lead to problems.”

Driessen, however, believes that Kluivert should not be appointed as the technical director but acknowledges that he could be valuable in a different role within the organization. “You cannot take him seriously in that capacity, but he could make a significant impact on young players aged sixteen to eighteen on the field.” Verweij suggests that Kluivert could join the new technical staff, possibly serving as an assistant to a highly qualified new head coach. “Why not have Kluivert working alongside someone like that?”
