Controversy Surrounds Eredivisie Matches Amid Winter ConditionsControversy Surrounds Eredivisie Matches Amid Winter Conditions

Last weekend, eight out of nine Eredivisie matches proceeded as scheduled, despite inclement winter weather conditions. FC Groningen and NAC Breda faced off, resulting in a goalless draw. However, Hans Nijland, the former director of FC Groningen, believes that such match days should be canceled under these circumstances.

In the lead-up to the resumption of the Eredivisie season, the Netherlands experienced harsh winter weather. While matches in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie and amateur football were suspended, nearly all top-tier games continued as planned. Nijland expressed his outrage over the KNVB’s (Royal Dutch Football Association) decision to allow play to go on and maintains his stance even after the fact.
