Controversy Surrounds Referee Danny Makkelie During FC Utrecht vs. Ajax Match

Referee Danny Makkelie found himself embroiled in controversy once again during the match between FC Utrecht and Ajax on Sunday. He disallowed a goal scored by Wout Weghorst after a VAR intervention, despite being in a position to witness a foul that he failed to call earlier in the match.

Former top referee Dick Jol did not hold back in his criticism of Makkelie when speaking to Sportnieuws.nl. He expressed a damning assessment of Makkelie’s current performance, stating, “I have evaluated all the referees, and Danny Makkelie is currently the worst referee there is. He is not the same as he was a year and a half ago; he is completely lost and acts as if he has invented officiating. His performance in recent weeks has been nothing short of a disaster.”
