BOLOGNA, Italy — Bologna’s commendable 12-match unbeaten streak came to an unfortunate close on Monday, as they suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to Cremonese. Jamie Vardy notably scored his first brace in Serie A during the match.

The encounter featured a Bologna side that had not lost in 12 games against a Cremonese team that had recently experienced three consecutive league defeats, suffering a combined score of 6-2.

Cremonese struck first after 30 minutes when Matteo Bianchetti delivered a precise through ball to Martín Payero, who finished confidently, leaving the Bologna goalkeeper with no chance.

Just four minutes later, Vardy doubled the lead with a goal remarkably similar to Payero’s. A pass from Federico Bonazzoli allowed him to break free from a sluggish Bologna defense, and he coolly slotted the ball home from nearly the same position as the first goal.

Riccardo Orsolini managed to pull one back for Bologna with a penalty just before halftime. However, Vardy, a summer signing from Leicester City, restored Cremonese’s two-goal advantage five minutes into the second half, tapping in a cross from the right at the near post.

This performance was particularly uplifting for Vardy, who had reportedly been a victim of a robbery the previous week.

According to UK media reports, thieves had broken into his home near Lake Garda and stolen £80,000 worth of valuables while he was engaged in a league match in Rome.

The victory was also a significant boost for Cremonese, who, after winning their first two matches of the season, had managed only one win since. This recent result elevated them two places in the standings to 11th.

Conversely, Bologna dropped to sixth place, now trailing Como on goal difference, and it marked the first instance this season that Vincenzo Italiano’s team conceded three goals in a single match.
