Cristhian Stuani Remains Resilient After Missed PenaltyCristhian Stuani Remains Resilient After Missed Penalty

Uruguayan forward Cristhian Stuani remains undeterred following his missed penalty in the 96th minute during Girona’s match against Sevilla. Known for his penalty-taking prowess, Stuani was thwarted by Vlachodimos, who emerged as the hero of the match. Nevertheless, hours after the game, Stuani confidently stated that he would seize another opportunity in the future.

“Today, it was my turn to miss! Football continually tests you and always imparts lessons, especially in challenging situations. I am grateful to Míchel for entrusting me with this responsibility and for my teammates, who deserved the victory,” he shared on his social media. “I’m certain that I will try again.”

Stuani has proven to be a reliable penalty taker, with an impressive record in La Liga. Under Míchel’s guidance, he has taken 29 penalties, scoring 27 of them. His only misses occurred during this recent match and in a game against Almería on October 20, 2022.

None of his teammates criticized the legendary Girona player for his error, including the coach. “I have no regrets. I didn’t choose Stuani because I lacked confidence in another player; he is my first choice for penalties,” Míchel remarked. “If I have to rely on someone to convert a penalty, it’s with Stuani. It just wasn’t meant to be today.”

Teammate Lemar added, “The coach chose Stuani to take the penalty. He usually never misses, but today was different. We need to keep our heads up and continue on our path.”
