Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero recently expressed his frustration with the club’s management in a fiery social media post following the 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth on Wednesday.

The loss marked Spurs’ eighth Premier League defeat of the season, leaving the team struggling in 14th place on the league table after a last-minute winner from Antoine Semenyo.

In the aftermath, Romero issued a lengthy statement apologizing to the fans but also highlighted that “other people” should take responsibility and speak publicly during tough times, implying that they only appear when the situation is favorable to share misleading narratives. Shortly after posting, he edited his message to remove the reference to “lies.”

“Apologies to all our fans who support us tirelessly and will continue to do so,” Romero stated. “We take full responsibility for our performance, and I am among the first to acknowledge this. However, we will keep confronting our challenges and strive to improve for ourselves and the club.”

He further noted, “At times like this, those in charge should be more vocal, yet they remain absent, as has been the case for several years. They only seem to appear when results are positive to share misleading information.”

Romero concluded with a message of solidarity: “We will remain dedicated, working together to turn our fortunes around. In challenging moments, staying silent, laboring diligently, and moving forward as a unit is essential in football. Together, we will find it easier to navigate these difficulties.”

Following the final whistle on Wednesday, tensions flared as Romero’s teammates, including defenders Micky van de Ven, João Palhinha, and Pedro Porro, engaged in confrontations with the traveling supporters.
