Crystal Palace and Tottenham Reach Agreement on Brennan Johnson s TransferCrystal Palace and Tottenham Reach Agreement on Brennan Johnson s Transfer

Crystal Palace has reached an agreement with Tottenham for the transfer of Brennan Johnson, with the fee reported to be around £35 million ($47.2 million). However, the winger has yet to decide on his next destination, according to sources from ESPN.

Tottenham is open to allowing the 24-year-old to leave as manager Thomas Frank seeks to restructure his squad during the January transfer window. Johnson has garnered interest from several clubs, with Bournemouth considering him as a potential replacement for Antoine Semenyo. Semenyo is anticipated to depart shortly, with Manchester City emerging as the frontrunner to activate his £65 million ($88 million) release clause.

Oliver Glasner, the manager of Crystal Palace, is eager to bolster his team as they navigate the challenges of European football for the first time in the club’s history. Currently, the team sits tenth in the UEFA Conference League after six matches.

Despite the interest, Johnson plans to evaluate his options once other clubs formalize their interest, making a final decision on his future. Continuing at Tottenham seems increasingly unlikely.

The Welsh international concluded last season as Tottenham’s top goalscorer, netting 18 goals across all competitions, including the sole goal in May’s significant Europa League final against Manchester United, which marked Spurs’ first trophy in 17 years.

In contrast, this success did not secure manager Ange Postecoglou’s position, and Frank has utilized Johnson sparingly this season, with the winger starting only six league matches to date.

Frank is expected to address the media later, where he will likely provide updates on Johnson’s situation. Johnson initially joined Spurs from Nottingham Forest for £47.5 million (approximately $64 million) in September 2023.
