In the latest London derby between Chelsea and West Ham, an intense confrontation unfolded between Marc Cucurella and Adama Traore, with Adama ultimately gaining the upper hand by bringing the left-back to the ground. This incident led to a brief scuffle, with Joao Pedro stepping in to defend Cucurella after Enzo Fernandez scored a late winner, securing a thrilling match.

Recently, the two players found themselves in an awkward reunion on Spanish television during the 3 Cat Fanzone show. Cucurella candidly admitted to provoking Adama during the match, stating, “Joao Pedro saved my life; honestly, if I were Joao, I would have run backwards.”

He recounted the events, saying, “It was towards the end of the game. I put my body in a bit, we scuffled, and at one point I stood up and saw I was very close to him. I thought, ‘I’ll stick my head out a little and see if I can stir things up,’ and then he grabbed me, pulled me down, and a real scuffle broke out. These things happen; I don’t have a problem with it. That said, if I ran into him on the street, I’d hesitate about whether to say hello after this.”

Upon seeing Adama enter the set, Cucurella was forced to smile and clap, while Adama commented, “It was just the heat of the moment during the match, nothing more. I personally ran into Marc, and I know he’s a good guy; it’s nothing personal, it all stays on the field.”

Cucurella lightheartedly responded, “Now I’m calm because there’s a screen between us.”

After the match, West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo expressed his disappointment, stating, “It’s frustrating and sad that this game went away from us. The idea is to maintain the same performance as in the first half. Chelsea were bound to react, but we failed to defend adequately and struggled with crosses. We must focus on rebounding and coming back stronger.”

Cucurella, despite the brawl, maintained a positive outlook on his team’s performance. “At half-time, we spoke. Ultimately, it’s about our mentality and the desire we showed in the second half. We are very happy. Liam Rosenior emphasized that if we press, desire the ball, and play confidently, we will create chances to win. We have excellent players and a strong team; if we maintain this energy, we can win many games.”

Joao Pedro added, “Sometimes this can happen, but we have a strong squad. We demonstrated our capability today, and now we must look forward. This team is young, but there’s mutual trust; this is our strength. We can improve significantly, but this game was crucial in showcasing our resilience.”

As Chelsea prepares to face Wolverhampton this weekend, they are eager to build on their recent victory against West Ham. The Blues currently trail fourth-placed Manchester United by just one point ahead of the upcoming fixtures.
