Cunha Emerges as Key Player for Manchester United This SeasonCunha Emerges as Key Player for Manchester United This Season

Cunha has swiftly established himself as one of Manchester United’s standout performers this season following his significant summer transfer from Wolves. The 26-year-old Brazilian has quickly become a fan favorite at Old Trafford, with his combination of flair, aggression, and creativity earning him comparisons to the club’s legendary figure, Eric Cantona.

Although his goal-scoring record has been modest, with just one goal in ten matches across all competitions, his impact on the pitch has been undeniable, driving United’s offensive strategy.

Manager Amorim has centered his attacking line around Cunha and fellow newcomer Bryan Mbeumo. This tactical framework has afforded Cunha the freedom to maneuver between the lines, facilitate connections with midfielders, and exploit defensive gaps.

Earlier this year, Cunha visited Old Trafford with the Wolves squad for a Premier League match where he was instrumental in his team’s 1-0 victory over United, with Pablo Sarabia netting the sole goal. After the match, as Cunha was heading towards the tunnel, Amorim stopped him for a conversation.

Recalling their exchange, Cunha shared with The Sun: “He said, ‘Hey, take care today. What do you think of the stadium? After the first game, Wolves against United on Boxing Day, it was a good moment to feel this connection. Wolves is very passionate. We discussed a little during the game and he had some insightful words for me.

“Then I told him, ‘Hey, take care of that thing!’ He’s a coach who drives us forward. This is crucial in such a high-stakes environment. Our results have improved significantly. Personally, he embodies the energy and passion needed to inspire the team, urging us to represent the club with pride. Every interaction with him intensifies my commitment to our goals, as he pushes me to realize my full potential.”

When asked about comparisons to Cantona, former Premier League defender Stephen Warnock remarked that Cunha possesses “the aura of Cantona.” Responding to this compliment, Cunha humbly stated, “Wow, what a player. I have much more to prove to be compared with him. Such remarks inspire me to channel the passion necessary to represent this club effectively. I feel honored to be associated with a legacy like Cantona’s. He made history, and if I can achieve even a fraction of what he accomplished, I will be very content and strive to leave my own mark. Being new to the club and its rich heritage, my focus is solely on restoring Manchester United’s glory days.”

Since October, United has experienced a notable resurgence, remaining unbeaten in their last four league matches, including three consecutive victories against Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton. However, they faced a setback last weekend with a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest. Amorim’s team will look to regain their winning momentum this Saturday as they prepare for a crucial away fixture against Tottenham.
