omidbasir- Daley Blind remains under contract with Girona, but changes may be imminent—perhaps even as soon as January. The experienced player is once again being linked to a return to the Eredivisie.

According to Jan Verdonk from the Pantelic Podcast, there are discussions at Ajax about bringing back their ‘prodigal son.’ The Amsterdam club is actively seeking a new, seasoned number six—a central midfielder—who won’t require a hefty financial outlay. Given that Blind’s contract with Girona expires next summer, he could be an attractive option, available for a minimal fee.

Blind’s last appearance on the midfield was in March 2023 during a match between the Netherlands national team and Gibraltar. In La Liga, he has been utilized as a defender, positioned centrally within the defense. “This role demands physical strength, repeated high intensity, and mobility in transitions. This season, Ajax has shown vulnerabilities in these areas under Heitinga. The prospect that Blind could effectively address these issues requires a significant leap of faith,” notes Verdonk.

In the summer, there were already whispers of a renewed collaboration between Blind and Ajax. Danny Blind, who recently stepped down as football commissioner in Amsterdam, expressed to De Telegraaf, “I am glad he did not transfer to Ajax. Daley faced criticism there, which would undoubtedly persist. I advised him against making that transfer. However, Ajax holds a special place in his heart, and he had a clause to return for little to no cost. I want to stress that I distanced myself from all discussions regarding Daley to avoid any conflict of interest. Alex Kroes and John Heitinga have spoken with him, and on the last day of the transfer window, Ajax expressed interest in acquiring him. However, Girona was not willing to cooperate. Personally, I was relieved by that outcome.”
