omidbasir- Hamburg’s goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes has emerged as a pivotal figure in ensuring that his newly promoted Bundesliga team remains clear of relegation threats after 11 matchdays. The 33-year-old, who has dedicated much of his career to lower league clubs in Germany, continues to deliver exceptional performances for Hamburger SV.

Having played a crucial role in securing HSV’s promotion last season, Heuer Fernandes fended off competition from high-profile newcomer Daniel Peretz during the training camp.

In his 11 league appearances, the Bochum native ranks as the league’s second most effective shot-stopper, trailing only St. Pauli’s Nikola Vasilj. According to Kicker, Heuer Fernandes is rated as the top goalkeeper in the league based on cumulative matchday evaluations through 11 rounds. Although he has kept just three clean sheets, there have been numerous occasions where he stood out as HSV’s best player on the field.

A particularly notable performance occurred during Saturday’s narrow 0-1 defeat against Augsburg, where Heuer Fernandes played a critical role in keeping the match competitive. After the game, HSV head coach Merlin Polzin emphasized the goalkeeper’s importance, stating, “we needed him to stay in the game at all.” Heuer Fernandes even ventured forward for a late corner and came close to scoring an equalizer.

As he aims for greater sporting success this season, the highly effective goalkeeper is likely to secure a lucrative contract extension in January. Following the match on Saturday, Heuer Fernandes expressed his desire for prompt discussions regarding the extension of his contract, which is set to expire at the end of the current season.

“It’s my job to help the team,” Heuer Fernandes articulated in an interview with Sky Germany. “But I don’t want to wait until April.”
