Danilho Doekhi (27) has confirmed that he will not be extending his contract with Union Berlin, effectively ruling out his participation in Bundesliga football for the next season.

Regarded as one of the league’s top-performing defenders over the past 18 months, Doekhi is attracting interest from Leeds United, although the West Yorkshire club faces competition from Premier League side Aston Villa for his signature.

As reported by Kicker, Doekhi has played every minute of Bundesliga football this season, contributing four goals, including a notable brace against Bayern Munich.

Union Berlin is resigned to the likelihood of losing Doekhi on a free transfer come summer. However, the club is willing to entertain offers in the current transfer window, provided a suitable deal is presented.

With Stanley Nsoki, currently on loan from Hoffenheim, returning to fitness, Steffen Baumgart has a defensive alternative available. Nonetheless, it is anticipated that Union may seek additional reinforcements in the transfer market, either through permanent acquisitions or further loan agreements for the remainder of the season.

According to Transfermarkt, Doekhi’s current market value stands at €13 million.
