Darren Fletcher Expresses Readiness for Manchester United Head Coach RoleDarren Fletcher Expresses Readiness for Manchester United Head Coach Role

Darren Fletcher has stated that he is “prepared” should Manchester United choose to appoint him as head coach for the remainder of the season.

Fletcher will oversee his second match as interim manager when Brighton visits Old Trafford for the FA Cup on Sunday. He is among the candidates, including Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick, Ruud van Nistelrooy, and others, vying for the position until the season’s end.

“I’ve always been quite relaxed about my future,” Fletcher remarked. “I’ve enjoyed it immensely, and I have tried to embrace the experience. I believe I am well-prepared and have always aimed to equip myself for a managerial role in the future. It’s something I always thought I could excel at and would genuinely enjoy doing.”

He added, “That said, I’m not desperately seeking to become a manager. I want to be ready for that opportunity whenever it arises, and I am confident that I will be prepared. However, if it doesn’t happen, I will be content remaining as the under-18s coach.”

Fletcher’s recent 2-2 draw against Burnley marked his first experience in senior management, having been appointed only on Monday after the dismissal of Ruben Amorim.

As he prepares to lead the team against Brighton, Fletcher’s future role remains uncertain. “I was surprised to be offered the opportunity for these two games, as it was not something I anticipated,” he explained. “However, when called upon, I am confident in my ability to manage. I have learned significantly during my five years at the club and feel at ease in this environment.”

Sources indicate that Manchester United aims to clarify their managerial situation early next week. Both Solskjaer and Carrick have recently held discussions with club officials regarding the future direction of the team.

Fletcher concluded, “Ultimately, it is not my decision. The club must determine what they believe is best for Manchester United’s success going forward, and I trust they will make the right choice.”
