DFB Imposes Suspension and Fine on Dominik KohrDFB Imposes Suspension and Fine on Dominik Kohr

The German Football Association (DFB) has issued its expected decision regarding Mainz 05 midfielder Dominik Kohr, announced late Monday evening. Kohr, who holds the Bundesliga record for the most expulsions from league matches, will face a suspension of three league fixtures and a fine of €15,000 due to his aggressive foul on Hoffenheim’s Max Moerstedt last Friday.

Initially, Kohr faced the possibility of a more severe punishment, as many observers deemed his challenge reckless enough to warrant a straight red card. A four-match ban would have effectively sidelined Kohr for the remainder of the 2025 calendar year. However, under the current ruling, he will be eligible to return for Mainz’s last league match against St. Pauli on December 21.

Despite this suspension, Kohr remains available for selection by head coach Bo Henriksen in Mainz’s upcoming UEFA Conference League fixtures. It is noteworthy that the 05ers have performed well in Europe, winning all three of their Conference League matches to date.

In contrast, the situation in the Bundesliga is more concerning, as Henriksen’s team currently resides in the automatic relegation zone with only one win and three draws after 11 matchdays.
