The German Football Association (DFB) has delivered its long-anticipated decision regarding Mainz 05 midfielder Dominik Kohr late on Monday night. Kohr, who holds the Bundesliga record for the most red cards, will serve a three-match suspension and pay a fine of €15,000 for his aggressive tackle on Hoffenheim’s Max Moerstedt last Friday.

This incident was widely regarded as reckless, with many observers agreeing that it warranted a straight red card. Kohr faced the possibility of a more severe sanction, which could have resulted in a four-match ban, effectively sidelining him for the remainder of the league’s 2025 calendar year. Under the current ruling, he will be eligible to return for Mainz’s final league match against St. Pauli on December 21.

While Kohr will miss several league games, he remains available for head coach Bo Henriksen in Mainz’s upcoming UEFA Conference League fixtures. Notably, the team has performed admirably in Europe, winning all three of their matches to date. However, challenges abound in the league, where Henriksen’s squad is currently situated in the automatic relegation zone, having secured only one win and three draws across 11 matchdays.
