Diogo Jota, the former Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers forward, made headlines recently as his sons, Dinis and Duarte, are set to join mascots on the pitch prior to a match between Liverpool and Wolves at Anfield this Saturday.

The tragic loss of Jota, who passed away in a car accident in Spain in July, has left a profound impact on the football community. At the age of 28, alongside his 25-year-old brother, Andre Silva, his untimely demise was a significant event for fans and players alike.

This Premier League fixture, scheduled for 15:00 GMT, marks the first encounter between the two teams since the passing of Jota. In his program notes for Liverpool’s final home match of the 2025 season, manager Arne Slot expressed his hopes that the affection surrounding Jota may provide some comfort to his family.

“Reflecting on everything that has happened over the last year ignites a rollercoaster of emotions, and it is normal at this time to look back on the past events,” Slot noted. “My thoughts are particularly with Diogo Jota’s family as they face their first Christmas without him. While it is not my place to dictate where they may find solace, I sincerely hope that the love and affection Diogo inspired continues to bring them some comfort.”

During his time at Liverpool, Jota scored 65 goals in 182 appearances, contributing to significant victories, including the FA Cup and League Cup in 2022, as well as the Premier League title the following season. He initially joined Wolves on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid in 2017, ultimately scoring 44 goals across 131 appearances with the club.
