Diomande s Breakout Season Sparks Premier League InterestDiomande s Breakout Season Sparks Premier League Interest

omidbasir- Diomande has had a remarkable breakout season in the Bundesliga after joining RB Leipzig for €20 million (£17.2m/$21.6m) last summer. The young forward has netted seven goals and provided four assists in 20 league appearances, contributing to his team’s ascent to fourth place in the standings.

His impressive performances have caught the eye of several Premier League clubs, notably Liverpool and Manchester City, who are reportedly monitoring his situation. Additionally, Tottenham Hotspur considered him as a replacement for Brennan Johnson, although that move did not materialize.

Despite Liverpool’s interest in Diomande, it appears that they will not pursue a transfer in the immediate future. According to Sacha Tavolieri, complications have arisen due to Diomande’s existing contract with his previous agency, which is valid until 2027. This contract was signed prior to his switch to Roc Nation and has thus entangled his image rights, preventing Liverpool from negotiating with RB Leipzig until these legal issues are resolved.

This delay may provide Liverpool with some breathing room, as they continue to integrate their major summer signings into the squad following a challenging season. While Hugo Ekitike has made an immediate impact, Florian Wirtz has taken time to acclimate to the Premier League. In contrast, Alexander Isak has faced fitness challenges after his transfer from Newcastle United and recently suffered an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture. He is hopeful of returning to action before the end of the season, possibly as soon as March.

In an interview with GOAL earlier this year, Diomande acknowledged awareness of Premier League interest but emphasized his focus on current performances. “I’m trying to stay concentrated and listen to the coaching staff and to play my own game. People can see everything is going well, so I’m not going to stop. My friends try to send me updates, but I prefer to remain focused and calm. It was always going to take two or three years. I’m working hard and am pleased that everything is progressing so quickly; I hope to continue this momentum until the season ends.”

Liverpool has struggled to replicate their previous successes, having won the Premier League title in the 2024-25 season. Currently, they sit with 39 points from 25 matches, trailing behind league leaders Arsenal, with their primary goal now being to secure a place in the Champions League.

The Reds were in a strong position to secure a second consecutive league victory when Dominik Szoboszlai scored a stunning free-kick against Manchester City. However, the situation quickly turned as Bernardo Silva equalized and Erling Haaland converted a penalty in the 93rd minute to give Manchester City the lead. Adding to Liverpool’s woes, Szoboszlai received a red card in stoppage time, ruling him out for their upcoming challenging match against Sunderland on Wednesday night.

Sunderland, having been promoted from the Championship, is enjoying a successful campaign and is comfortably positioned 12 points above the relegation zone.
