omidbasir- Diomande played the full 90 minutes in RB Leipzig’s DFB-Pokal defeat to Bayern Munich over the weekend. Despite this setback, the German club’s elimination at the hands of the Bundesliga leaders is unlikely to dissuade interested parties. The 19-year-old forward has been the subject of significant transfer speculation following an impressive start to his tenure with RB Leipzig, prompting the club to reportedly demand over £100 million for his services.

Among the clubs linked to Diomande is defending Premier League champion Liverpool, who are actively seeking to bolster their left-wing options. The Reds sold Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich last summer and have yet to adequately replace him. Additionally, Liverpool is cautious about the potential loss of Mohamed Salah this coming summer.

Another player rumored to be on Liverpool’s radar is Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon, as manager Arne Slot’s team is expected to prioritize acquiring a winger at the end of the season. While Liverpool has emerged as a favored destination for Diomande, he clarified that his connection to the club is primarily through his father, who has long supported the team.

In an interview with BILD, Diomande stated: “People made it out to be my dream club. But first and foremost, it’s my dad’s favourite club. It was always his great wish to see me there someday because he loves the atmosphere at Anfield. He always raved about Steven Gerrard. I was too young to see him play. We didn’t even have a TV at home for a long time. I have a lot of respect for Liverpool, but my dream club right now is Leipzig.”

When questioned about the possibility of joining Bayern Munich in the future, Diomande acknowledged the prestige of the club but confirmed that he has not received any offers from them. “It’s always nice to hear something like that,” he remarked. “But I haven’t spoken to anyone from Bayern. It’s not the right time for that. I’m happy here in Leipzig and want to remain fully focused.”

This season, Diomande has made a significant impact, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in the Bundesliga. He has also completed 68 dribbles, more than any other player in Germany’s top tier, which has piqued the interest of Premier League clubs like Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham.

Despite the attention, Diomande emphasized his commitment to maintaining focus on his current role at Leipzig. “I’m trying to stay concentrated and listen to the coaching staff and to play my own game. People can see everything is going well, so I’m not gonna stop,” he told GOAL earlier this year.

“My friends try to send it to me, but I try to stay focused and calm. For me, it was gonna take like, two or three years. I’m working hard as well, and I’m happy, like everything happens so quickly, and I hope to keep going until the season ends.”

Liverpool’s interest in Diomande aligns with their strategy to future-proof their squad. The club has confirmed the signing of Jeremy Jacquet, who will join Anfield this summer as they seek a long-term successor for Virgil van Dijk at center-back. Van Dijk, along with Salah, signed a new two-year deal last summer but will turn 35 this coming summer. With ongoing speculation regarding Ibrahima Konate’s future, Liverpool is proactively securing reinforcements in defense.

The French player, who recently suffered a serious shoulder injury while playing for Ligue 1 side Rennes, was heavily linked with Chelsea last month, but the Blues ultimately missed out on the opportunity to sign the 20-year-old.
