In front of a sold-out crowd in Madrid, featuring performances by Puerto Rican superstar Daddy Yankee and Argentine producer Bizarrap for 78,610 fans, the Miami Dolphins secured a crucial victory over the Washington Commanders. The Dolphins triumphed with a final score of 16-13, overcoming the Commanders in a tense overtime finish.

Cornerback Jones played a pivotal role in the Dolphins’ success, making a crucial interception that set up the team’s game-winning field goal. This decisive play allowed Miami to return home with a much-needed win. Following his impressive interception, Jones celebrated by emulating the famous move of Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer, Ronaldo, delighting fans in the stadium.

In a post-game interview, the 27-year-old cornerback revealed, “I had to bring that out. I was talking to my friend and said, ‘When I make a play, be ready for that celebration.'”

Jones intercepted quarterback Marcus Mariota on the first offensive play of overtime, cutting in front of Commanders’ tight end Zach Ertz. His interception cleared the path for Riley Patterson, who successfully kicked the game-winning field goal.

Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks remarked on Jones’s prediction before the play, stating, “His exact words were: ‘Y’all stop the run. He’s going to throw me the ball because he can’t throw.'”

This historic matchup in Madrid marked the first regular season NFL game to take place in Spain, concluding the International Series fixtures for 2025, which featured seven games outside the United States.

Jones is not the first NFL player to mimic a memorable soccer celebration during games in Europe. Many American football stars have drawn inspiration from soccer, with Ronaldo continuing to be an influential figure for millions worldwide. At 40 years old, Ronaldo has signed a new two-year contract with Saudi Pro League team Al-Nassr and is expected to captivate audiences in the Americas during the upcoming 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
